Scope and content

This forms the basis of a study carried out in 1993-95 by May & Hogg (1996) into the needs and quality of life of adults with learning disabilities and their families. Data were collected principally by means of semi-structured interviews with parents (mothers mainly) + subjects (where possible), and with key workers in both the residential and day services sectors. Most interviews were taped, and some (but not all) were transcribed. Additional data exist in the form of ABS schedules for all cohort members and brief two-week social activities diaries for those in residential accommodation.
