Biographical history

The Association was formed in response to a circular issued by the Scottish Section of the Congress Board calling on the Co-operative societies in Forfarshire and Perthshire to establish a permanent Co-operative Conference Association for their mutual benefit. The Forfarshire and Perthshire Co-operative Conference was formed at a meeting held in the Young Mens Christian Association Rooms, Dundee on Saturday 15 February 1879 at which delegates from the Scottish Section, the Wholesale Co-operative Society, Glasgow and the Co-operative Societies in Dundee, Perth, Blairgowrie, Arbroath and Broughty Ferry were present. In 1906 the group incorporated Aberdeenshire and became The Perth, Forfar and Aberdeenshire Co-operative Conference Association. In 1918 the name was changed to the North-Eastern District Co-operative Conference Association.
