Biographical history
Sir David Patrick (or Peter) Chalmers (1830-1899), advocate, was born in Scotland in 1830. He was educated at the Edinburgh Institution and at Edinburgh University. He was appointed magistrate of Gambia in 1867, of the Gold Coast, 1869, Queen's Advocate of Sierra Leone, 1872, first Chief Justice of Sierra Leone, 1876, Chief Justice of British Guiana, 1878 and Deputy Governor of the Gold Coast, and was a Royal Commissioner for the Rising in Sierra Leone, 1898. He died on 5 August 1899.
