Biographical history
In 1892 David Pirie joined the firm of Messrs John McNicoll & Co, Jute and Flax Merchants, Dundee, and became a partner in the firm in 1896. In March 1907 the firm's name was altered to Messrs McNicoll, Pirie & Co., and Pirie assumed managing control of the firm a few months later on the death of McNicoll. In 1912 the firm's name was altered to D Pirie & Co. The firm became a limited liability company with Pirie as the chairman in 1926, and in 1931 the firm was reconstituted as D Pirie & Co (1931) Ltd. David Pirie died in 1943.
