History

Dundee College of Education was faced with the issue of where to house its students, a question of particular importance due to the large number that came from a distance. A significant step forward was taken in 1912 when Mayfield House to the east of the city was acquired and altered to become a hostel for women, housing 50 female students by the early years of the first world war. During the second world war Mayfield was requisitioned by the navy but by the 1950s had resumed its normal function as a College residence.
