In 1899 John Normansell Kyd, who had been involved in his father's flax spinning business at Lille, returned to Dundee and established a jute spinning concern at Walton Works. In 1905 he purchased Rashiewell Works, previously occupied by Martin Stewart & Co, jute spinners. The firm became a limited company in 1920 and amalgamated with other jute firms to form Jute Industries Ltd., in the same year. It went into voluntary liquidation in 1933.
