History
Jess Margaret Page (Mrs Jess Campbell) 1925-1999, was born in Fife and brought up in Dundee; she attended Harris Academy and studied law at Dundee, graduating from the University of St Andrews in 1946. She was appointed Town Clerk of Wick in 1951, the first woman to hold such a senior local authority post in Scotland. Her first book 'The Three Elizabeths' a story for schoolgirls was published in 1949 and drew for its background on Harris Academy and Dundee. The Page family home was 25 Perth Road, now part of the Mathematics department of the University of Dundee. In addition to her Local Authority work and roles within the Manpower Servies Agency she was throughout her life actively involved in local voluntary groups and organisations; these included, in her younger days, Captain of the 27th Dundee Girl Guide Company attached to St Mark's Church of Scotland in Dundee and, later, secretary of the Neil Gunn Society.
