Watercolour - "Aneurism of heart"

Watercolour initialled HSL 1859 (Henry Scott Lauder) on front. Commentry by William T. Gairdner reads "Aneurism of heart, cured [sic] ie closed up with fibrin. Dr. Wilks - Path. Soc. Trans. Vol 8 p 103. The patient died of tubercular disease. The cyst was calcified externally, showing its long standing."

Watercolour painted by J. [John] Smith MD. Comments by W.T. Gairdner read "Pulmonary multiple abscesses resembling those of pyaemia or septic poisoning but without appreciable source of infection. One abscess opens into the pleura. One contains a small slough. Others have passed into a nearly cicatrised condition with atheromatous deposit, enclosing altered haematin."

The kidney was of the exact size represented and patient was 15 years old. Urine 1011 and bloody for some [--missing--] before death. On front, "Matthews aged 15. Urine SG 1011. Bloody for some time before death"

Unsigned watercolour but it is likely the work of Neil Stewart. Commentry by W.T. Gairdner reads "Colon of Pat McGuire aet 6. Unvaccinated. Admitted to E.R.I. with smallpox and died on the fourth day of the eruption. There were violent haemorrhages from the bowels --missing--. Blood was found extravasated also after death in kidneys and lung. The appearances here --missing-- and exact rep [?] were regarded as a smallpox eruption occuring on the mucous membrane --missing--. See Ed. Med. Journal, Feb 1849 p549 {?}. Jan 1849"
