Includes an address delivered to the Edinburgh and Leith Engineers Society by Fleeming Jenkin, President; letter dated 11 February 1874 on same subject; and notes for lecture on Navigation. Jenkin was the first Professor of Engineering at the University of Edinburgh, and a friend of Lord Kelvin. He was a designer of transoceanic cables, and was an innovator in evolutionary biology and economics. MS. [Taken from Department of Engineering].

The Scots Language Resource Centre gathers material in or on Scots. The Centre works with other organisations to develop new teaching resources and it acts as an information exchange for folk organisations and material concerning the Scots tongue. The SLRC is funded by the Scottish Arts Council and Perth and Kinross Council and gets additional money from members and people that support the Scots tongue. The Centre is in the AK Bell library in Perth and is staffed every day. The SLRC is a member of the European Bureau of Lesser Used Language (EBLUL) and takes part in the meetings of the Scottish Parliament's cross party group on the Scots language.
