They consists of notes on ships built in Dundee, Arbroath, Perth and Fife, their subsequent history, builders, owners, masters etc., arranged topographically and chronologically and in some cases by subject. Some notebooks include notes on local history and personalities. The notebooks cover the period 1767-1978.
