Alexander Ewing, Bishop of Argyll and the Isles [Clapham] to George [Frederick] Boyle.

Sends copy of his answer to the bishop of Glasgow in which he stresses his belief that although the spirit of Christianity at Cumbrae may not be altogether in the form they should wish, he doubts that "meddling with its accidents" will make it any better and in which he points out that Boyle is ready to co-operate in making the institution a sort of missionary home

Alexander Ewing, Bishop of Argyll [Buntingford] and the Isles to George [Frederick] Boyle, Cumbrae.

Discusses the possibilities of a revival in the state of the Episcopal faith in the west of Scotland with the College forming "the foundation and house" of an order of preachers. Believes that there should be "ready made men" to lead this movement but that "the real difficulty is the want of Gaelic".

Appendix I, n.d., to a paper submitted to the late Synod of Argyll and the Isles.

Concerns: the objects of the Foundation [of the Cathedral and College at Cumbrae?]; the clergy's position; and eventual intentions for a Cathedral Seat of the Isles to be set up, for which the founder [George Frederick Boyle] had bequeathed £8000. Issued in the names of George Frederick Boyle and Alexander Ewing, Bishop of Argyll and the Isles. Typescript
