Correspondence between Normile Baxter and Matheson

Concerning Mr. Baxter's plans to gather together various family records, with particular reference to their role in the foundation of University College; and to produce a display on the subject. Correspondence broadens out into a more general discussion of the Baxter family, their properties ('Ellengowan') and endowments. From 1969, there are numerous communications from a John Baxter of Yorkshire, extermely tenacious in his search for information about his ancestors. There is also an enquiry, in 1970, from John Butchart of the Montrose Review.
