History
The object of this Association was to regulate relations between members and their employees and between member and member. Its important duties, apart from the adjustment of production of the mills in the membership of the Association to the demands of the world market, were 'to arbitrate on matters under dispute; to secure legislation beneficial to the trade, and the repealing or prevention of legislation which was likely, in any way, to injure the industry; to encourage and finance technical development in plant and machinery and scientific exploration of new uses to which jute can be applied; to open new markets, fix points of custom, adopt common forms of contract; and generally to assist and co-operate with any other recognised bodies in the promotion of the interests of the jute trade'. The Indian Jute Mills Association was not part of the A & S Henry group.
