Canongate was founded by Stephanie and Angus Wolfe Murray in 1973. After a period of turbulent trade, the Company was purchased by Publisher and Managing Director, Jamie Byng in 1994. Under Byng's leadership, the independent publishing company re-emerged as one of the UK's most dynamic and successful publishing companies.
